A large steelyard weight of composite construction, in the form of an acorn. The weight comprises two cases and a lead filling. The cases form the cup and fruit of the acorn. The cup is formed from a copper alloy which would have appeared yellow. The fruit is formed from a copper alloy with a high tin content and would have appeared grey. The cup is decorated with many random semi-circular punches. There are also short curving lines around the rim of the cup. The rectangular loop is almost worn through. Part of the lower case is damaged enough to expose the lead packed filling. The weight is of Roman or medieval date.
The diameter of the 'fruit' is 23.15mm.
