Copper alloy, probably tinned
Probable Mount fragment. Cast flat-backed plate with cross-hatched central field of lozenges in relief and seven concave settings, three on one side and four on the other; a circular boss at one end of the object has a similar central setting. The hatched surface appears intended to afford grip, so this may be an ornamental fitting for a knife, brush or tool handle. The boss bears concentric milled lines suggesting machine finishing. An apparently unassociated white metal disc with flange was submitted with this object, and is of similar recent date. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950.
