A complete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. Slight internal projections are present where the strap bar and frame proper meet. The buckle is undecorated and the square sectioned pin remains in tact.
The metal has a dark greenish-brown patina and is worn. The buckle is 35.4mm long, 23.7mm wide, 2.5mm thick and weighs 7.1g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead p's.18 & 19 and are dated to circa 1250 - 1500.
