Roman Brooch: Incomplete and worn cast copper alloy Headstud brooch. The bow, foot and wings of the brooch survive. The head loop is missing although slight races of where this attached remain. The wings are cylindrical and the axis bar for the hinged pin is encased within. The top of the hinged pin fitting is in situ. The bow is semi-circular in section. On the arch of the bow is the worn headstud which consists of a raised outer circular rim with a central raised pellet. The are two transvers grooves at the bottom of the bow and below this the foot consists of a rounded knop. The pin and catchplate are missing.
Brooches of this type are typically dated AD c.75-200.
