An incomplete Roman (AD 50-150) tinned copper-alloy Initial T-shaped brooch with hinge mechanism, missing the pin, the lower bow and catchplate. The brooch measures 23.25mm in incomplete length and weighs 9.79g.
The tubular wings span 30.35mm. They are decorated to the front only with a double groove flanking each open end. To the reverse is a slot for the pin with the iron corrosion product in the slot.
The bow projects in a shallow curve from the top of the wing. A flange with a single groove triple-rib flanks the bow on either side from the top. Below the bow measures 17.55mm in width, and narrows to 7.8mm in width at the (old) break, which is D-shaped in cross-section. The bow is decorated with a central wide groove, flanked on either side by a three ribs which are decorated with very fine horizontal incisions. The bow steps downwards at the old break. The reverse is mostly flat, the centre of the bow has a concave recess.
