A Medieval (1250-1500) copper alloy gilt horse harness pendant, missing its enamel decoration. It measures 31.94x26.18x7.06mm and weighs 4.46g.

The pendant itself is c.1mm thick and sub triangular in shape, the bottom edge being concave while the other two edges are convex. It depicts a dragon walking right within a 1.5mm wide rim, along the edges of the pendant. The dragon's head is turned left and upwards, into the apex of the pendant, just below the loop (which is turned through 90 degrees). Running parallel to the chin is the wing. The tail bends upwards behind the haunches and runs up to the tip of the wing. The feet of both foreleg and back leg are in either corner of the bottom edge. Gilding survives along all the raised surfaces of rim and dragon, except for the eye, both feet and the rim in one corner, which is a little bent too. The dragon would have been on a background of enamel, which is now lost, and its detail would also have been picked out in enamel. No hint or small traces of what colour the enamel may have been survives.

Use of enamel suggests a date from the mid-thirteenth century onwards.
