Medieval cast copper alloy bar mount in the form of a central circular section flanked by two small rectangular outer ends. It is 'D'-shaped in section with a flat back and convex front. The centre and ends are thicker than the rest of the mount. The centre is plain. The ends have a pierced circular hole, one still containing a seperate copper alloy rivet. The rivet is a circular sectioned piece of wire with a bent over and slightly flattened back, 0.6mm in diameter. The backs of the rectangular ends have a circular cavity around the rivet holes. The mount is 15.2mm long, 7.7mm wide, 5.9mm thick including the rivet, 1.7mm excluding and it weighs 0.60g.
This form of belt mount was very popular in the Medieval period and was in use from at least 1150-1450 AD (Egan and Pritchard 1991: pp26 and 214).
