An incomplete and slightly misshapen Medieval cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle frame (c. 1250-c. 1400 AD).

The pin is missing.

The frame is convex at the front and flat at the rear. It is sub-oval in plan with an ornate outer edge. The outer edge has a knop at each end. On the upper surface, between the knops, are two transverse ridges creating a central pin-rest. The narrowed off-set bar is sub-square in cross-section.

This buckle is worn and abraded and has a dark-green patina with patches of buff corrosion products.

18.20 x 20.74 x 2.85mm. Weight: 1.94g.

Similar buckles from London have been found in contexts dating from the 13th and 14th centuries (Egan & Pritchard 1991: 312, fig. 46).
