An incomplete cast copper-alloy strap fitting or hooked tag of Post-Medieval date. It is missing the suspension loop or lug due to old breaks. The object has an openwork trefoil shaped plate with two circular apertures at the top and a central lozenge shaped aperture beneath. At the top of the plate are old breaks indicating where the now missing integrally cast lug would have originally been positioned. At the base of the plate is a second central circular rivet hole beneath which there is a transverse collar from which extends the integrally cast hook. The hook is flat, rectangular in form, triangular in section and curves backwards so that the tip meets the back face of the hook. The entire object measures 34.02mm in length, 16.98mm in width, 1.76mm in thickness and 2.74g in weight.
This is an incomplete strap fitting or hooked tag of Post-Medieval date. It finds a parallel in an example published by Read (2008: no. 828; see also IOW-0A0576, SF-5F17C6) that was found with a separately cast copper-alloy ring suspended from the hook at the base of the plate. It is likely that the current example was of similar form and function, suggesting possible usage as a belt or strap mount rather than a hooked tag. It is of probable 17th century AD date.
