BLADE

Unique ID: HESH-DBAE07

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Two small incomplete snapped flint blades or bladlets of later Mesolithic date (6000BC - 3500BC). These are both struck from a core and have the generic crested appearance. Both have been snapped and neither show signs of retouch on their tips or long edges. The underside of each shows conchoidal rippling but not evidence of bulb of percussion or striking platforms. One flake (the darker of the two) has a small area of cortex present. The flint is a mid mottled grey colour. The source of flint is difficult to ascertain; much of the local flint is procured from glacial and riverine sources.

The blades measure:

  1. 23.4mm length, 10.8mm width, is 4.2mm thick and weighs 1.18 grams.
  2. 24.0mm length, 7.8mm width, is 3.7mm thick and weighs 0.81 grams.

Bulk weight 1.99 grams
