A cast lead-alloy button, probably dating from the Late Medieval period.
The upper surface of the plano-convex head of the button is decorated in high relief. A boss marks the centre of the head; this is surrounded by six smaller, equally-spaced bosses. The spaces between the bosses are occupied by a lower pattern of ridges and pellets. An integral loop extends from the centre point of the head's flat underside. A small portion of the button has been lost.
Dimensions: 26mm diameter, 14.2mm deep (front of head to back of loop). Weight: 9.93g.
Similar cast buttons are illustrated and discussed by Bailey (2004: 17-21), who suggests a 13th to 15th century date. The recorder, however, knows of no parallels from securely dated archaeological contexts.
