One complete post-Medieval sheet silver disc belonging to a cufflink (c. 1675-c. 1700 AD). Treasure case no. 2012 T111. The disc is circular in plan and has a down-turned edge. Raised decoration at the front consists of a flaming heart pierced by two arrows with three drops of blood below. At the rear there is a soldered wire attachment loop.
13.82mm (diameter); 4.01mm (thickness). Weight: 0.68g.
Cufflinks and buttons with this design are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza (1662), but continued to be used as a general symbol of love and/or marriage.
Similar cufflinks have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. See finds from: Tendring District, Essex (ESS-33CD73), Basildon, Essex (ESS-BD57D3) and the Sherington area, Buckinghamshire (BUC-699487).

Discovery: Found by Roy Atkinson while metal-detecting in February 2012 and recorded by Frank Basford (Isle of Wight FLO).

Metal content: The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1712. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.
