<description>
<full>A copper&#45;alloy penannular bracelet of Roman date.
The bracelet has been broken in recent times and appears also to have been stretched outwards; however, it is otherwise complete. It is of oval section, the widest and thickest points being the two opposing terminals, from where it gradually tapers towards the back. Adjacent to the vertical inner face of each terminal, there is a band formed by one broad groove and one shallower groove. This is adjacent to the main panel of decoration, in which there are a number of closely&#45;spaced herringbone incisions in the outer surface. A single vertical groove separates the terminal from the rest of the bracelet, which is undecorated. The artefact measures approximately 81mm wide, 60mm deep (terminals to back of hoop) and weighs 11.54g.
Similar bracelets were found in excavations at Baldock, Hertfordshire, all having been found in contexts of the late 3rd to 4th century AD (Stead and Rigby 1986: 125&#45;128/fig. 53, cf. no. 188).</full>
