A incomplete copper alloy Early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) strap end of Thomas Class A Type 1. The strap end is formed from one piece of copper alloy and had a split end where the strap would have been inserted and secured. Only the rear half of the strap end survives; some of the Trewhiddle style design survives, depicting an entwined animal that is hard to define. The strap end narrows as it extends through the design. but it is broken further of this point where it would have terminated in a zoomorphic snout. This type of strap end is one of the most common styles, and dates from c. AD 750-950.
