{"recordID":"4867","finds":[{"created2":"1998 09 03","description":"Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman military strap fitting, of 1st to 3rd century date. The incomplete fitting is comprised of a T-shaped horizontal bar above a crescent shaped loop. There is a worn break across the base of the bar. The bar has two transverse grooves across its width. The reverse of this bar has traces of rivets. There is a short rectangular zone connecting the bar to the loop, which has some feint transverse grooves. The loop has an expanded lower edge where it joins to the bar, and tapers in thickness towards the apex where the two arms of the loop join either side of a moulded terminal, reminiscent of an acorn motif. The strap fitting is approximately 50mm long and 30mm wide. It has an even green patina.","notes":"This record was originally created before the Portable Antiquities Scheme began using the Central Database, and as such it may fall below our usual standards of recording.
