Cast lead spindle whorl dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The object is circular in plan and bi-conical. The object has a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 11mm. The faces of the object are decorated with a series raised dots and lines which radiate out from the central perforation. A series of pellets are interspersed with the ridges. One face of the object has been damaged, resulting in the central hole being closed over. The object has a dark grey patina.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1066-1500.
