2012-02-02 15:58:54 Frank Basford fbasford 2012-02-02 18:13:00 Frank Basford fbasford IOW-AB2BE5 HARNESS PENDANT An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy harness pendant set consisting of suspension mount and a small portion of a harness pendant The mount is sub-rectangular in plan slightly convex at the front and slightly concave at the rear. The top is rounded and has a ragged break. At the centre, close to the top, there is a copper-alloy rivet. The rivet is flush at the front and burred at the rear. The lower part has been perforated with a rectangular slot and then turned through 180° to form loops that make contact with the rear face of the mount. These loops contain a copper-alloy axis bar from which hangs the shaft of a copper-alloy harness pendant. This set is corroded and pitted and has no trace of any surface treatment. Buff material surrounding the rivet at the rear may be decayed leather. Overall length: 31.70mm; width: 10.92mm; thickness: 5.03mm. Weight: 2.76g. Length of pendant shaft: 14.47; width of shaft: 2.07mm; thickness of shaft: 5.72mm.
