UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Unique ID: NARC-AA09B5
Object type certainty: Certain
A cast copper alloy object. Rectangular in plan, with a rectangular collar and a small projection extending at a perpendicular angle from the collar as a continuance of the edge of the main rectangular plate. The object has a diagonal uneven break from the collar to half way deon the body of the main plate, obscuring what seems to have been the functional portion of the object. The reverse is plain, but uneven with raised bumps. The edges are rounded and the object as a whole seems well worn through use.
The front plate has decoration cast in relief, with several irregular shaped cells making a geometric style pattern. there are no traces of enamel of infill to these cells. This object is possibly a large buckle plate, although the lack of rivet holes is problematic. The style and patina suggest a Roman date, althougn no parallels ahve yet been found to support this.
