HARNESS PENDANT</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>A fragmentary harness pendant of Medieval date, c. 1150&#45;1400.
Originally, the harness pendant was probably rectangular or shield&#45;shaped, though only a fragment or portion remains, the upper half with its cast integral suspection loop. The remaining pendant has also been folded into an L&#45;shape.
The pendant is decorated with three shields arranged side&#45;by&#45;side on a cross&#45;hatched field. The devices on the shield are in low relief, as each shield&#45;shape provided a cell for enamel, now missing. The central shield may bear traces of red enamel. The devices on each shield are uncertain, but the left and central shield seem to bear the same or similar devices &#45; a downward pointed triangle (harp, beast&#39;s head?) in the upper left and lower right quarters &#45; while the shield on the right has a square/rectangular device (a tower?) in the upper left and lower right quarters.
The reverse is undecorated.</full>
