The pommel is oval in cross-section and sub-rectangular in plan. The top is domed and has a rectangular slot for the tang of the blade. A moulded cresecent or 'beak' extends from the shoulder of the pommel on both narrow-sides. That these mouldings represent a beak is strengthened by the the presence of a small circular cell of what appears to be niello in the centre on both broad sides. These cells presumably represent the eye of the bird. The surface of the pommel is decorated on both sides with two incised lines running diagonally from top to bottom.
The internal dimensions of the socket are 18mm x 14mm.
A similar pommel with a suggested date of 18th century is recorded on this database as NMS-143141.","","","2012-02-01 11:36:51","2012-02-01 15:03:13","4","","1","2010-11-01","","","","","1","1","1","1","","","","","","adaubney","Adam Daubney","LIN","adaubney","Adam Daubney","Copper alloy","","","","Cast","Inlaid with niello","Incomplete","","Certain","POST MEDIEVAL","","","Metal detector",""," Adam Daubney",""," Adam Daubney","LINCOLNSHIRE","IRNHAM","SOUTH KESTEVEN","","","","TF0227","TF0227","TF02NW","","","","","","","From Finder","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","367992","LIN2012-172.jpg","images/adaubney/",
