COIN
Unique ID: SUSS-69EBE8
Object type certainty: Certain
An extremely worn copper-alloy Roman radiate nummus, probably a posthumous issue of Claudius II (c. 268-70 AD). Minted after c. 270 AD. Although no part of the legends remain, parts of the decoration on the obverse suggests a radiate bust facing right, with a sharp nose, short cropped beard and hair. The reverse decoration is of a larger square altar, perhaps the CONSECRATIO reverse type struck after Claudius II's death. Cf. Reece and James1986, Identifying Roman Coins, pp 24-25, No. 55.
