Lithic Implement: Complete flint arrowhead of Neolithic, probably early Neolithic, date. The arrowhead is leaf-shaped and bi-facially worked with extensive invasive retouch present on one face, with the second face only retouched around the tip. The flint is semi-translucent and has a creamy-beige patina.
Leaf-shaped arrowheads are broadly dated to the Neolithic period, c.3500 BC - c.2100 BC with the peak of their production thought to be in the early Neolthic period, c.3500 BC - c.2900 BC with a decline in production through the middle Neolithic, c.2900 BC - c.2500 BC and a lack of firm evidence to suggest that production continued into the later period although such arrowheads have been found in late Neolithic and Bronze Age contexts (Book Reference: see C.Butler, 'Prehistoric Flintwork', 2005, pages 122-125).
