The weight is made from lead-alloy and is onion-shaped with no further marks on the surface. There are remains of an iron hook at the top which is now corroded away and missing. Steelyards weights such as this were in common use in agricultural areas, but they were not official weights seeing that they were not marked in any way. Official weights would be clearly marked with an indication of the weight and the assayer's mark.2012-01-26 16:53:422012-02-23 16:53:00412011-11-221Certain11132129PAS4F21850B0017B825141LANCUMLead Alloy11095CastCompleteROMANROx41218p0gjgrs69wsMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxMetal detectorCircaCirca4670122563545252563541430Restricted AccessTA0166TA06NWLangtoft263532716100366905KDMDTP2.jpg2Probably a Roman or medieval lead-alloy steelyard weightThe Portable Antiquities Scheme5images/dboughton/Yorkshire and the HumberCharacter undeterminedCultivated landEuropean RegionUnitary AuthorityEast Riding of YorkshireUnitary AuthorityEast Riding of YorkshireCivil Parish54.0899-0.459606Restricted AccessReturned to finder95324
