MOUNT

Unique ID: NCL-171DB7

Object type certainty: Certain

A cast copper-alloy mount of probable Medieval date, c. 1300-1500.

The mount is probably a fragment of a larger object, made from a cast sheet of copper alloy. The remaining portion consists of a cruciform terminal with three fanshaped lobes emerging from the end of a rectangular arm. Each lobe has a triangular projection in the middle of its outer edge, though the projection of the central lobe (opposite the arm) is missing. A circular perforation can be seen at the base of each projection and where the arm joins the lobes. A cracked bend can also be seen on the arm near the perforation, and an abraded tear and a crimping of the metal suggest further bending at the opposite end of the arm.
