None of the flakes exhibit any sign of reworking (retouching) to create specific tools. The chert is all of a mottled pale blueish-grey-white colour with a creamy opaque patina. Some traces of the outer cortex remain. The first of the 2 photos accompanying this record shows 4 larger classic struck flakes with notable striking platforms, bulbs of percussion, ripples and arrises. The second photo shows less clearly marked pieces of debitage and smaller struck flakes which do exhibit the same diagnostic markers as the larger flakes. Due top the lack of retouching, to create specific & more readily databale tools, it is not possible to closely date these flakes. Comparison with other assemblages of similar debitage and the existence of Neolithic tools in the immediate area however has been used to suggest a date between the Neolithic (c.3500-2100 BC) through into the Bronze Age (c. 2100-800 BC), when flint working skills were in decline.
