BROOCH

Unique ID: LIN-010084

Object type certainty: Certain

An incomplete trumpet-headed related brooch dating to the second century AD. The brooch has an incomplete crescent shaped, hollow head. At one side is an iron rivet, representing the point at which the pin mechanism was attached. The pin is missing. The head is arched and leads to a flat half-rounded boss in the centre. A small flat tab of metal extends from the back of this boss and would have led into the foot. A similar brooch is illustrated in Butcher and Bayley, p.170, fig. 143, T162. The discussion within this publication cites further examples.
