It consists of two plates riveted together, one of which has a die-formed, domed end with a small drilled hole at the front. The strap-end is square at the attachment end, rounded at the free end and waisted at the centre. It has two rivet holes, one of which retains a copper-alloy rivet. The free end probably terminated in a hook, or possibly a loop ('eye'), but this is now missing.
The strap end as smooth green patina and measures 28.83mm x 18.73 and weighs 4.7 grams.
It is likely that the strap-end is part of a book clasp. The small hole through the domed end probably held a short length of cord or chain to provide purchase when drawing it into position.
