SEAL MATRIX
Unique ID: SWYOR-EB7773
Object type certainty: Certain
A complete cast lead alloy Medieval seal matrix dating from about 1200-1400. The seal is a vessica shape (or pointed oval) with a broken lug set at one end on the reverse. The face has been decorated with a stylised fleur de lis. Surrounding the border is a legend which reads "S' RO(B)' EILI P' EIPI :", a personal seal probably for an individual named Robert. The face of the seal matrix is worn and has a creamy light brown and grey patina. Seals of this shape became popular in the 13th century; therefore, this seal most likely dates from this period. Other seal matrices of the same period may be found on the database at PAS record IDs: YORYM-2A8D97, SF-BF1EE6, NARC-750251.
