It is probably the base from an unfinished and misfired, broken or sub-standard candlestick; a finished candlestick would have been tin-glazed. It is circular with a central round hole (25.6mm diameter) surrounded by a raised ring. On the underside the fragment has a raised circular central section with sloping sides; in the centre of the underside is a roughly square hole (12.9mm x 12.3mm); this break marks where the central column of the candlestick would have original stood. It measures 53.4mm (diameter) x 17.0mm (thickness) and weighs 30.73g.<\/p>\n
