The buckle has a double looped frame with two D-shaped loops back-to-back with a central, integrally cast, narrowed spindle. There is a sub-oval knop to both the top and bottom of the spindle. These knops may be intended to represent leaves or feathers and are decorated with an incised central groove with diagonal lines radiating outwards. The loops each have 6 concave moulded recesses for taking gemstones, with two still in situ and one loose. The reverse of the buckle is flat and plain. The pin is missing. A similar buckle, although without any stones in situ, can be seen in 'Buckles - 1250-1800', Ross Whitehead, p.71, number 446 and this buckle has been dated in line with this as c.1600-1720. The finder has had the stones looked at and they are thought to be gemstones, possibly white sapphires. Near complete cast copper alloy buckle of Post Medieval date.
