HANDAXE
Unique ID: BERK-6290A0
Object type certainty: Certain
A complete pointed handaxe dating from the Lower Palaeolithic period (c, 500,000-40,000 BC). The handaxe is in good condition and appears to have been 'rolled', a reflection of its age and suggesting it has been in a high energy environment (such as a river) before its final deposition. The flint appears to be Chiltern flint, now being a reddish-orange in colour. Recortication is evident on the dorsal surface.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
