Bag Seal. Pair of cast discs joined clenched together with a stamped impression, apparently the same on both sides. A slot opposite two apertures formed a drawstring closure. A central motif in a bordered roundel depicts a pelican feeding its chicks with blood from its breast, a medieval motif representing Christ but here adopted as the trademark of G & T Earle, cement manufacturers. The company adopted the pelican brand name in 1897, and operated cement works on the Humber Bank at South Ferriby for much of the 20th century. A legend in two orders reads: (outer) LEADSEA[- - PELICAN, and (inner) G & T EARLE LIMITED. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950.
