A copper alloy weight probably dating from the post Medieval  period. This unusual weight has a bulbous, drop-shaped body and towards  the top it tapers into a neck. The top of the neck is a separate element which (presumably) has a tube which fits inside the neck, a disc which forms a lid, and above this a collar round an oval suspension loop. This upper element is connected to the lower by a rivet which passes through the neck, through both elements. It is not clear whether there are two rivets, one on each side, or one long pin that goes from one side to the other. The outer  shell is made of copper alloy and there must be space inside as loose soil or sand can be heard moving inside. The weight is  decorated with incised circumferential lines. On the base is a set of three concentric incised circles, with a symbol incised in the centre. Unfortunately this is not clear, but it appears to be 3IC (or possibly 5iC). The relevance of this is unclear. The condition of the  metal and the decoration seem to indicate a Post Medieval date. The mass of this example does not  fit snugly into any known weighing system. the mass being 287g (or 10 and 1/8oz). This makes it extremely  difficult to date securely. No close parallel can be found for this  weight except for SWYOR-49E7B1. It is most likely that this is an idiosyncratic Post Medieval  agricultural weight.
