A silver perpetual calendar from a Georgian porte crayon. The object is a silver tube inscribed with six bands each divided into seven squares. The upper five bands are inscribed with four x's followed by the numbers 1-31. The lower band is inscribed with the initials of the days of the week.<\/p>\n
A similar calender from a porte crayon is illustrated on the front cover of 'Collecting Pencils', by Courtier, Marshall & Marshall (second revised edition). The object was probably made by the Birmingham silversmith Joseph Willmore (1803-45) in 1817.
