Roman object; cast copper alloy object of uncertain function but probable Roman date. The object is a spiral of copper alloy, forming three ridges with a decorative knop at the top corner. The knop appears to have originally been quatripartite but one of the lobes is now missing. The object has a D-shaped hole through the centre, which is now blocked with a powdery pale green substance, possibly the remains of a paste or a large build-up of copper corrosion product. The function of this object is unclear and no close parallels have come to light. However, the patina of the copper alloy, together with the general form of the object, suggest a possible Roman date.
