AWL

Unique ID: LVPL-7E3686

Object type certainty: Certain

Cast copper alloy awl possibly dating to the Bronze Age, (2150-800BC). It has an expanded waist in the centre, from which either end tapers to a point. One end terminates in a sharp point while the opposite end has a rectangular cross section and narrows to a flat terminal which is broken. The flattened side may have been used as a tang and could have been inserted into a socket. The object has a dark green patina and is pitted.

Such construction is typical of prehistoric awls which are thought to date from the late Bronze Age.
