A Medieval silver coin: a penny of Edward IV, second reign (1471-83), Durham mint. This coin was struck from local dies for the benefit of Bishop William Dudley (1476-83). At some time it has been pierced with a small, circular hole in the centre of the king's crown. It has also been clipped and most of the legend is missing. It is 14.7mm in diameter and 0.8mm thick. It weighs 0.65gm. Reference: North, volume 2, number 1665.

Reverse description: A long cross pattee dividing the legend with three pellets in each angle and a letter D in the centre of the cross. There is an additional small pellet in each of three angles; the fourth angle is too worn to determine whether it also carries an additional pellet.
