A fragment of an early medieval (early Saxon) cruciform brooch with the catchplate on the back. The fragment comprises the lower terminal which is formed by the head of an animal with prominent projecting eyes and opposed spiralling nostrils. The fragment is in extremely good condition with an even grey green patina.
