A lead Russian bale seal dating to the nineteenth century probably from the Estonian port of Narva. The seal is circular with a hole for the cord running from side to side. One side reads: ?N P./[ ]?I 1 9 H/[1]821. The other side reads: ЛA /?A K y ?Y / [ ]O B ?S / [ ]2.
Lead-alloy seals such as this one were attached to bundles of flax and hemp exported from Russia during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
