The seal comprises one surviving sub circular disc and the rivet. Some remnants of cloth are also present on the seal. On the disc is a relief-stamped inscription: W D (War Department) flanking an upwards pointing arrow, inside a circle. Above the circle is another inscription which, due to wear and damage, is illegible. Much of the upper disc was broken off and is now missing. The other side of the disc is flat and undecorated; however, there are a number of incised lines which possibly make a number 2 and possibly letters X and Y. The seal has a light creamy brown patina.
