A complete Medieval silver-gilt finger-ring (1300-1400 AD). Treasure case no. 2011 T590.
The ring has a square soldered bezel inscribed with a schematic flower motif. The hoop is rectangular in cross-section and its outer face has been engraved to form letters: +IESVS NAZAR+ (Jesus of Nazareth) In Lombardic style. There is a cross pattée at the beginning and end. There is no gilding on the inside of the hoop.
25.2mm (height); 23.9 (outer diameter); 4.6mm (width of hoop); 1.4mm (thickness of hoop). Weight: 7.07g.
The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1711. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.

Discovery: Found by Peter Hopkinson while metal-detecting in September 2011 and recorded by Frank Basford (Isle of Wight FLO).
