A cast copper alloy Iron Age one piece La Tené III brooch, dating to the first century AD (c. AD 43-80). The brooch is incomplete; the main body of the bow and the catchplate is all that survives, and this is distorted and bent. The bow itself is shouldered at the top and slowly narrows towards the foot; a line of chevrons run from the outer edge of each shoulder into the centre and down the bow where they terminate above the cacthplate, in a similar fashion Lowbury style brooches (Mackreth 2012 plate 7). There are three possible ribs running across the width of the bow just above the catchplate. This is almost identical in design (and condition) to another brooch found nearby (BERK-8EDEA1). Lowbury brooches are identified with the Atrebates tribe of Hampshire and Berkshire and beyond.
