STRAP FITTING

A cruciform, openwork, hollow-backed, strap fitting or mount with one terminal missing. The mount is domed centrally with a prominent knob and with four circular apertures. Each terminal is piere with a circular hole to take an attachment rivet and each is engraved with a saltire. The mount is slightly rounded with the terminals angled downwards away from the domed centre.
Notes:
This fitting or mount is of 11th century date.
