Medieval cast copper alloy bar mount in the form of a large central oval flanked by two small ovals with flattened outer ends. The oval central part is domed with a concave back and decorated with four transverse incised lines across the centre. The oval ends are also domed, each has a central rivet hole which widens towards the back. One is empty, the other contains a circular copper alloy rivet the back of which is bent over. The cavitys on the back of the central section and the end with the rivet contain a white substancem, probably decayed solder. The mount is 17.5mm long, 9.3mm wide and 4.7 mm thick including the rivet, 3.6 excluding; it weighs 1.17 grams.
This form of belt mount was very popular in the Medieval period and was in use from at least 1150-1450 AD. (Egan and Pritchard 1991: pp26 and 214).
