The design is a motif similar to a thrift flower as seen on George VI three pence pieces, or maybe a thistle. It has a single central stem dividing into three with a circular cross hatched flower head at the end of each stem. At each side of the stem is a key. The complexity of the design suggests is unusual for a personal seal and may be a merchant's privy mark. On the reverse there is slightly different patination in the middle of the disc, perhaps suggesting that the matrix face was soldered to some form of handle. There are also two circular depressions near the middle of the disc which may be a further clue to the way it was mounted.
