Treasure Report: 2011 T254 'Tendring District', Essex: gold and gem setting
Description: A medieval gem setting. Traces of the original fixing remain on the reverse. The setting is hexagonally shaped and the gem is dark blue, possibly a sapphire. The setting is gold and dates from the thirteenth century.
Dimensions: length 11 mm, width 10 mm.
Discussion: Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
