Silver gilt cast figures of a St. George and the Dragon probably 15th century AD. It was perhaps a pilgrims badge affixed to a hat or could have been worn on the doublet of a Knight of St. George over his gambeson. The Order of St. George dates back to 1326. The figures are beautifully molded cast in extremely fine detail with a small loop at the back of the George which suggests that it was attached to clothe not metal. The St George would have originally been attached to the dragon either by the lance (now broken) running through the tail of the dragon or more likely holding the tail in the open hand indicated by wear pattern on the left leg. The knights hands are covered plated mitts and he is wearing full plate armour which would be a feature of this period. The length of the George is 40mm, width 9mm, thickness 5mm and weight is 8.43g. The length of the dragon is 30mm, width 15mm, thickness 4mm and weight 6.33g.
