Circumstances of discovery: Whilst searching with a metal detector
Date: Roman 3rd century Description: Fragment of a Roman silver finger ring, of Henig type VIII; only the bezel and shoulders survive. The bezel is a raised, undecorated oval. Each shoulder has raised rectangle; one shoulder is broken immediately after the raised rectangle, whilst the other shoulder extends into part of the hoop, with three raised rectangles separated by 'D' shaped recesses forming a serrated edge.
Length: 17.64mm. Width: 5.83mm. Thickness of bezel: 2.53mm. Thickness of hoop/shoulder 1.53mm. Weight:1.29.
The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
