Description: A complete two-piece silver eyelet of early post medieval date. Consisting of a circular plate decorated with an applied filigree boarder within which there are six small filigree annulets which surround a central silver circular knop. Slight traces of gilding can be seen on the front face of the plate. Soldered to the flat back face of the plate is a separate twisted wire bent in the centre to form a long-shanked eye, each running end bent in line with the shank and then into a laterally projecting closed attachment spiral.
Notes:
This eyelet is of Read's Early Post medieval Class B, Type 2 (Read, 2008, 159). A very similar example is known from Bedfordhsire, Treasure case 2006 T584.
