A damaged silver thimble, dome missing (?), made from thin silver sheet formerly joined at one edge (now detached) decorated with regular circular indentations with transverse strip below between pellet borders. Engraved initials 'M D' at ?join, now divided. There is a perforation at the base of the thimble and some verdigris at the join internally.
Notes:
This thimble dates to the late 17thcentury, and is of a common type frequently reported through the Treasure Act, e.g. TAR 2004, pp. 145-146; ref. 333.
As the thimble contains at least 10% silver and is at least 300 years old, it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
